The Western U.S. includes the West Coast, plus everything eastward to the Mississippi River; it includes roughly 300 4-year schools, depending on the sport.

Finally, the Entire U.S. includes both areas previously mentioned, plus everything east of the Mississippi River; it includes roughly 700 - 1000 4-year schools, depending on the sport.

There are two major considerations when beginning a recruiting campaign of this nature; the overall cost, and what area of the country the family is comfortable looking at. The nationwide distribution, while more expensive in overall cost, is the best overall value. Next is the Western U.S., and finally, the West Coast.
